What is a mastermind?
No one is meant to go through life alone.
If you ask anyone who has garnered a certain level of success, I guarantee they will tell you that they had some kind of support throughout their journey. Just like athletes have coaches and business people have mentors, a mastermind group offers support but from a group of like-minded yet diverse people.
A Piece of History...
Billionaire Andrew Carnegie credited his fortune to his Master Mind group, which inspired journalist Napoleon Hill to coin the term in 1937. Inventor Thomas Edison, industrialist Henry Ford, and businessman Harvey Firestone all participated in a mastermind group. One of the most famous groups of all time inspired authors C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien to write The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings series. Some argue that mastermind groups are the world’s most prosperous people’s biggest secret to success.
Definition of a Mastermind
The most straightforward definition of a mastermind is a group of peers who meet to give each other advice and support. Instead of one-on-one coaching, masterminds usually have five to eight members and take place once a month. The amazing thing about mastermind groups is that they come in many different forms and can be customized to any particular group of people. Whether you are starting a business and want advice from entrepreneurs, are passionate about extreme sports and want to find fellow thrill-seekers, or are looking for some personal growth and accountability to support your goals, the options are endless.
“I was invited to participate in the first-ever mastermind group with Lauren a few years ago. At the time I was missing a group of like-minded, strong, independent girlfriends in my life who I could chat with about anything from personal goals to career advice. It was fabulous to have a support network of strong females to bounce ideas off, challenge my perspective and have the types of conversations you would have with a counselor, but in a fun, safe environment whilst also gaining friends.”
The Benefits of a Mastermind
The benefits of joining a mastermind group are boundless. The best groups will hold members accountable for their goals, challenge each other’s belief ceilings, offer unfettered support and encouragement through both successes and failures, and provide a safe and trusting community to help you navigate life the best way you can.
